Renovation project in Ottawa-Gatineau

Heritage porch rebuild & bathroom renovation

Centertown, Ottawa — March 2024

Project scope

Two contracts — heritage porch rebuild addressing carpenter ant damage on an 1898 dwelling, plus interior renovation adding an ensuite and guest bathroom with bearing wall relocation. A complex heritage project requiring careful structural work.

Heritage Bathroom Structural

The challenge

A heritage home built in 1898, directly across from the Museum of Nature in Centertown. The second-floor porch had been infested with carpenter ants and required extensive rebuilding — in the tight quarters of a downtown Ottawa street. Inside, two bathrooms needed to be created by relocating non-bearing walls and redesigning plumbing.

Our approach

Daniel created a plan that addressed both the exterior heritage restoration and the interior bathroom redesign. The porch required extensive shoring of the upper level while the lower was rebuilt. For the bathrooms, bearing wall analysis determined exactly what could be moved. The client trusted the team so completely that she left the country during the demolition phase.

What the client said

"I trusted Daniel and his team to such an extent that I was able to be out of Canada during the dusty demolition stage of the construction."

"Daniel's integrity and competence was consistently reflected by his team whether Daniel was on site or elsewhere."
